Spirits Labels
Create your custom product!
A good spirit label requires materials that guarantee protection, resistance to cold and humidity. Remember: a good distillate must be able to age and be cooled for the next dinner with friends without the risk of its label being ruined.
Spirits labels: resistance above all
Let's face it; distilleries need high quality spirit labels to be able to win in such a competitive market. For an innovative product such as a spirit or liqueur, it is essential to have a label that communicates the quality and character of the product in a way that attracts potential customers.

Coated papers
The right adhesive material for the right spirit label. The choice of material should not be taken lightly. The material can completely change the perception of your wine and brand. Oppaca offers various types of media for printing spirit labels.
The Coated Paper is a smooth and superficially treated paper with matte or glossy finishes with a high white point (clean white), capable of making any color shine.
Glossy paper
This high gloss pure cellulose paper with off-machine chrome application is free from mechanical pulp. This cardstock is subject to a water-resistant treatment that prevents creases forming and reduces the absorption of water on the surface. This glossy paper is suitable to all types of application, its specific characteristics make the colours on your label stand out, being shinier and more brilliant. This paper stock is also resistant to immersion in water and ice.
Matte paper
This wood-free paper is matte, coated off-machine. Resistant to wetting and alkalis, this coated paper has been subject to water-resistant treatment. Its special properties render this cardstock ideal for all applications, specifically for multicolour overprint labels with thermal treatment. Water-resistant matte paper is also resistant to immersion in water and ice.
Natural papers
Natural paper is a paper with an untreated appearance, characterized by particular textures, natural colors with different shades of white or ivory and different paper weights. Find out with us what their salient features are, and which types of natural paper go best with your spirit labels.
Felt-marked paper
This is natural paper with pure cellulose, having a felt-marked surface on both sides. The water-resistant treatment to which this cardstock is subjected prevents the formation of creases and reduces the absorption of water on its surface. Thanks to these special characteristics, your bottle will easily pass the ice bucket test. It is recommended for high-quality spirit labels, especially for liqueurs, rum and gin.
Embossed paper
This natural paper is embossed and passed through a smoothing press with a treatment to render it resistant to water, alkali, and mildew. The embossing is quite evident, inferring an “orange peel” effect to the paper that makes it ideal for spirit labels with strong character and personality.
Laid paper
This natural white laid paper is passed through a smoothing press with a treatment to render the paper resistant to water, alkali and mildew. This top-quality paper is perfect for spirit labels where a classic look or a vintage and handmade touch is sought after.
Cotton paper
This natural paper in 100% cotton fibre has been treated to make this cardstock resistant to water and mildew, having a porous texture. Due to the nature of the raw materials utilised, there may be some minor impurities and/or changes in colour. The water-resistant treatment applied prevents the formation of creases and reduces water being absorbed on the paper’s surface, ensuring your product is able to pass the ice bucket test. It is ideal to produce excellent spirits and other alcoholic beverages with a high alcoholic content and to embellish top-quality products. Cotton paper is also great for printing spirit labels that are simple and minimalistic.
Plastic Materials
Plastic materials are materials made of polypropylene and can have glossy, opaque and transparent finishes. Ideal for maximum resistance to the bucket of white and sparkling wines.
Glossy polypropylene
This polypropylene film is white, glossy, bioriented and features a top-coated finishing. It is suitable for spirit labels that need to be long-lasting and resistant to moisture, such as for cosmetics and beverages. From an aesthetic perspective, this material renders colours brighter and super glossy for a highly effective visual impact.
Matte polypropylene
Matte polypropylene is a white, opaque polypropylene film with a top-coated treatment. As in the glossy version, it is recommended for spirit labels where long life and resistance to humidity are required. It makes the colors more intense while maintaining a very refined matte finish.
Transparent polypropylene
It is a transparent, glossy, bi-oriented polypropylene film with a top-coated treatment. The clear version, like the glossy and the opaque, is recommended for spirit labels where long shelf life and moisture resistance are required but, unlike these two, it is great for creating clear spirit labels to apply on bottles. whose content you want to show through a "no label look" effect.
The transparent finish of this material is ideal if you want to make the contents of the package visible. Using selective opaque white it is possible to create transparent parts on the adhesive label itself. The selective opaque white is a very opaque ink that serves as a base on transparent materials for the subsequent printing of shades. The areas that will be left transparent must be free of selective opaque white. The selective opaque white must in fact be present only on those areas of the adhesive label that must be opaque and conceal the content inside.
Special materials
Special materials are out of the ordinary and are used for particular and innovative spirit labels. If your spirit is an over-the-top product and you want to communicate its uniqueness, this category of materials is the one for you.
Pearlescent and embossed paper
It is a natural paper, classified among the special papers for its texture. Embossed and pearly white in color, it has an anti-pulping treatment that makes it resistant to humidity. The embossed pearlescent paper is ideal for spirits intended for immersion in water and ice and to give a precious touch to your personalized spirit labels.
Metallic silver paper
It is a shiny silver metallic paper, free from wood and composed of a layer of high gloss vacuum laminated aluminum. It is great if you want to achieve a reflective and sparkling effect that will make your spirit stand out on the shelf.
Protection and finishing
Protective Varnish
The protective varnish, a colorless coating applied to the final printed work, allows you to safeguard the intense and brilliant colors of your spirit labels from exposure to the sun and abrasion caused by transport. You can choose between a glossy finish, recommended to increase color saturation and at the same time ensure a good degree of protection; and a matte finish, if you are looking for elegance and refinement for your spirit label. The natural substrates are painted with a water-based paint that does not alter either the color or the texture of the paper, while in the case of glossy substrates it is recommended to use a protective glossy varnish that does not alter the appearance of the substrate.
Oppaca cares about your satisfaction and the quality of its products, which is why it applies a layer of protective varnish to all the labels it produces to guarantee greater resistance over time.
You can choose between:
- Matt protective varnish
- Glossy protective varnish
Lamination
Lamination is a process that allows you to protect your personalized spirit labels. It is a very thin film of plastic material that is applied to the printed substrate and allows, in addition to a good degree of protection, to give brightness or opacity to your final work. The main advantage of lamination is the ability to protect the surface of the spirit label from any drops of product that could ruin it. Lamination is the solution to this problem. You can choose between different types of finishes: glossy, if you want to increase the saturation of the colors in the spirit label; opaque, if you want to give the label a more elegant and refined look; and soft touch to make the spirit label velvety.
You can give a final touch to your spirit label with:
- Glossy Lamination
- Matte Lamination
- Soft-Touch Lamination
Embellishment
A good graphic design and the right material are not enough to create spirit labels with a winning appeal. Another decisive element is needed: the embellishment. Discover the embellishments with which you can enhance your personalized spirit labels. And don't forget to protect them properly.
Hot foil
With hot foil, or hot stamping, you can intervene on the intensity and brightness of the colors but above all give some parts of the graphic design a metallic effect, in terms of color and texture. The printing process consists in making a thin metal sheet, called hot foil, adhere to the spirit label because of heat and pressure. You express your imagination and choose from different shades the one that best suits your needs. The warm reflections of the Ducal Gold are perfect if you want to achieve a classic style while the Glossy and Opaque Gold are excellent for highlighting some details of the spirit label thanks to the elegant and reflective golden nuances. The particularity of copper and its shades tending to orange and red is instead recommended for creating labels with a strong personality. Finally, with Shiny and Opaque Silver you can embellish your spirit labels with more or less reflective silver effects and focus on more modern atmospheres.
High-Build Gloss Varnish
High-build gloss varnish is a screen-printing process that allows you to highlight some graphic elements of the spirit label, creating a glossy three-dimensional effect. To achieve this result, screen printing frames are used that allow high-precision printing, both in large and small sizes. It is recommended to embellish the spirit label both visually and to the touch and thus emphasize elements such as your brand name.
Gloss Spot Varnish
The gloss spot varnish is a printing technique that allows you to bring out some details of the spirit label and to increase the saturation of the colors without creating embossed effects. The details are highlighted thanks to exposure to UV rays, a step in the printing process. The result is an irresistible effect to the touch and with a brilliant appearance, excellent for creating spirit labels that can capture the attention of your customers.
Embossing
Dry embossing is a printing process that allows you to create three-dimensional effects on some elements of the spirit label. Thanks to a metal punch and a plastic male, the material is deformed by pressure, creating pleasant touch effects.
